Mother of Pearl
Description: Mother of pearl, also known as nacre, is the iridescent lining found inside the shells of some mollusks, such as pearls, abalones, and certain oysters. It's composed of layers of calcium carbonate and conchiolin, arranged in a brick-and-mortar structure that gives it both strength and beauty. This material is primarily used in jewelry, buttons, and as inlays in musical instruments and decorative items, valued for its shimmering qualities that reflect light in a spectrum of colors.
Fun Fact: Mother of pearl has been used as a decorative material for thousands of years, valued not only for its beauty but also for its supposed protective qualities. It is believed to attract prosperity and is traditionally used as a protective talisman against negative influences. Interestingly, because of its ability to strengthen the environment it's in, it's often used in the creation of sustainable, eco-friendly products.
