The Vought F4U-1 Corsair, known as Daphne C, was the aircraft of 2nd Lt. James N. Cupp, a 12-victory ace of Marine Fighter Squadron 213 (VMF-213), nicknamed the Hell Hawks. During July 1943, VMF-213 was stationed on Guadalcanal, a critical Allied stronghold in the Solomon Islands campaign.
