Ist Politikerverständlichkeit angesichts der individuellen Verständnisvoraussetzungen der deutschen Wahlbürger überhaupt objektiv messbar? Welche – individuellen und gesellschaftlichen – Prozesse beeinflussen die Verständigung zwischen Politikern und Bürgern? Welche Merkmale des Kommunikationsprozesses führen dazu, dass Politikersprache als verständlich oder unverständlich wahrgenommen wird? Eine Beantwortung dieser Fragen fällt angesichts der bestehenden Forschungslage schwer. Denn Politik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft haben sich dem Thema bislang kaum gewidmet. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es daher, einen ersten Schritt zur Schließung dieser Forschungslücke zu unternehmen und die Instrumente und Ergebnisse der Verständlichkeitsforschung für Politik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft zugänglich zu machen.
