Ratchets are used with sockets. The ratchet, along with the socket attached to it, is the maximum leverage that allows you to apply torque. There are two attachment systems for sockets and accessories; the traditional springloaded ball detent system, and the Quick release system that allows you to attach and detach sockets and accessories to the ratchet. It is ideal for situations where sockets and accessories get slippery on contact with grease and oil, making it difficult to detach them from the ratchet drive.
