The name comes from a combination of two words: pictograph and stone. Pictographs are known as the earliest form of human communication. These first drawings, paintings and signs conveyed ideas, emotions and experiences onto rock walls. These early drawings have been determined to be thousands of years old. Since those early days we have been using different forms of material to write, sketch and create. Woodbased paper has been the most widely used since the 19th century. Pictostone products use a different medium called Stone Paper, which is derived from actual stone. Stone paper is made from the calcium carbonate (CaCO3) found in waste streams of limestone quarries. This byproduct is pulverized into a very fine powder, mixed with nontoxic resins and rolled into thin sheets of stone paper. This revolutionary process offers a product which is 100% treefree, waterfree, acidfree, bleachfree and does not produce any waste. Pictostone Products are water resistant, tear resistant, paper cut proof and fire retardant. They are recyclable and also photodegradable.
