On that very same date, 13th May, 64 years earlier, Our Lady had appeared to the three shepherd children in Fatima. The assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II took place on the anniversary of the Marian apparition. The Holy Fathers life was spared thanks to the Virgin Mary. As a sign of gratitude, he had an image of the Blessed Mother placed in St. Peters Square.
