BENEFITS OF CAT LICK MATS

As any cat parent knows, cats love to lick! Licking is how cats self groom, bathe, relax, and even prepare to catnap. When cats use lick mats, the behavior can offer even more benefits, including slowing down eating speed and stimulating saliva production. This in turn helps promote healthy digestion, oral hygiene, and fresher breath. While most people think of lick mats for dogs, a licking mat in a small size with a more intricate pattern is ideal for feline tongues, providing a rewarding yet achievable challenge.

CAT LICK MAT FAQS

WHAT IS A LICKING MAT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

A licking mat is a textured surface designed to hold soft pet treats or pet foods. As your dog or cat licks the mat, it provides mental stimulation, slows down eating, and helps soothe anxiety by releasing endorphins.

WHAT CAN I PUT ON A LICKING MAT?

You can use natural spreadable pet-friendly treats like cream cheese, plain yogurt, wet food, or eggs. Always make sure foods and ingredients are pet-safe, and consult your vet with any concerns.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY LICK MAT?

Sodapup licking mats are dishwasher-safe (top rack only). For handwashing, soak in warm, soapy water and use a brush to remove food residue.

ARE LICKING MATS SAFE FOR DOGS AND CATS?

Yes, both cats and dogs have a natural urge to lick. It may take a few times before your pet takes to a licking mat. Be sure to always supervise pets while using lick mats or any pet enrichment toy. Some pets may try to chew the mat; remove it if they start biting instead of licking or if the mat becomes damaged.

CAN I PUT MY LICKING MAT IN THE FREEZER?

These lick mats are freezer safe. Freezing extends the time it will take your pet to finish the treat and offers pets a different treat experience. Spread your pet’s favorite food on the lick mat, freeze it for 1-2 hours, and serve. This makes a great cool treat on a hot day.

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT LICK MAT FOR MY PET?

Choose based on your pet’s size, licking style and propensity, and preferred texture. Soft silicone mats with shallow grooves are great for beginners and casual lickers, while tougher mats with deeper patterns suit stronger lickers and tongues.
