These handmade bone or horn hairpipe beads are perfect for making bracelets, chokers, necklaces and breastplates in the Native American style or adding as accents to your leathercraft project. To the best of our knowledge, the black-colored and white-colored hairpipe are made from bone and the red-colored and yellow-colored hairpipe are made from horn, with all hairpipe being sourced from the Water Buffalo in India, not the North American Bison as some might lead you to believe. Since this is a handmade natural item, and not a mass-produced machine-made plastic product, each hairpipe bead is unique, and you should expect to have slight variations in each hairpipes length, width, weight, color, shape and location of the centerhole, and with some possible imperfections - just like if you made them yourself out in the wilderness. Hairpipe is traditionally widest in the middle and tapers to be narrowest at the ends. In general, hairpipe made from bone will be heavier in weight than hairpipe made from horn. Yellow-colored hairpipe will actually appear to be dark amber in color rather than the more familiar bright yellow color.
