Nintendo 64 non oem reproduction Daikatana video game cartridge.
Released in 2000, Daikatana for the Nintendo 64 is an adaptation of the infamous first-person shooter (FPS) created by John Romero and developed by Ion Storm. It centers on hero Hiro Miyamoto, who must use a mythical, time-traveling sword—the Daikatana—to stop the dictator Kage Mishima from altering history.
Core Gameplay & Story
- Time-Traveling Episodes: Players journey through four distinct eras: futuristic Japan (2455 AD), ancient Greece (1200 BC), medieval Norway (560 AD), and near-future San Francisco (2030 AD).
- Sidekick System: You are accompanied by two AI-controlled allies, Mikiko Ebihara and Superfly Johnson. Their survival is critical; if either dies, the mission fails.
- Arsenal: The game features over 30 different weapons across time periods, including era-specific gear like crossbows and magical staffs.
- RPG Elements: Hiro can gain experience to level up five core attributes: Power, Attack, Speed, Acro (jump height), and Vitality.
Nintendo 64 Version Specifics
- Console Adjustments: While similar to the PC original, this version features only 18 levels (down from 24) and modified cutscenes that lack spoken dialogue.
- Technical Performance: The game supports the N64 Expansion Pak for high-resolution mode, though players may still encounter low framerates and heavy "fogging" in large areas.
- Multiplayer: Includes a split-screen deathmatch mode and "Jewel Quest," where up to four players compete to collect five gems and find an exit.
- Rental History: It was initially released as a rental-only title at Blockbuster before becoming available for retail purchase during the 2000 holiday season.
