All sizes US 0 and smaller have a gold cord; all other sizes have a blue cord. Circular knitting needles are measured from tip to tip. For example, a 40 circular needle is 40 inches from one needle tip to the other needle tip. The US 36 and US 50 needle tips are not metal but fantastic plastic. Circular needles are not just for circular knitting; they are great for flat knitting as well.
